The VISTAS CENTER is sponsored by the Institute for Community and Organizational Development, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization established in 2000 and is based in Athens-Clarke County, GA.
The VISTAS CENTER is principally funded by the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA). VISTAS was established in 2001 with a two-year $248,375 grant from the Technology Opportunities Program, National Telecommunications and Information Agency - U.S. Department of Commerce. In 2002, ICOD d/b/a VISTAS, was awarded a one-time administrative grant from the GA Department of Labor and subsequently approved as a permanent 7th unit of the Project Independence Older Blind Program - which offers to persons age 55 years and older free-or reduced cost eye exams, canes, talking watches, canes, other assistive devices and independent living training. Our primary service delivery area includes Athens, the 10-county northeast Georgia area and beyond.
